I recently got my son an ant farm. It's an Uncle Milton brand giant ant farm. they are harvester ants.they are doing great and are very cool to watch btw!
my question is about keeping the sand moist. In the directions it says to be sure to keep the sand moist but not soggy. how do i do this without drowning them?
before we put the ants in there we slowly poured ounce's 3 to 4 ounces in there as directed. but i'm not sure how to go about it now that the ants are in there. and the directions don't mention how to.
does anyone know?
and how do you even tell when the sand is getting too dry?
thanksNeed advice about ant farms?
I would take a toothpick and dip it into the top layer of the sand. If the toothpick came back up with sand on it, it was wet, if not, I gave the whole cage a little spray. It does not need to be watered very often since it is enclosed. I had the harvester ants as well. They are very interesting.
